
Leveraged loans market reaches record levels
According to Standard & Poor's (S&P), the leveraged loan market is having its busiest year yet. Leveraged loan volume in the first half of 2004 totalled E35.4bn, the highest value since the ratings started in 1999. In 2003, lending in the first half of the year was at E24.4bn ahead of an annual total of E48.1bn. S&P cited the telecom sector and private equity backed leveraged buyouts as the main beneficiaries of the lending boom.
