Global private equity deals shows first rise in two years
Global investment in private equity and venture capital in 2003 rose for the first time in two years, up 43% to over $155bn, according to figures from joint research by 3i and PricewaterhouseCoopers. Growth in total buyout investment was driven largely by $1bn+ deals. The mid-market - in this study defined as deals below $1bn - has remained stable for the year as a whole but saw a sharp pick-up for the second half of 2003. Investment in technology companies saw its first signs of recovery driven by later-stage investing with at least $42bn invested.
