
Venture capital investment climbs i
The first quarter of 2005 saw venture capital investment in the UK increase from E256.74m in the first quarter of 2004 to E270.13m, according to the European Venture Capital Report produced by Ernst & Young and VentureOne. The UK continues to be the main market for venture capital investment in Europe, both in terms of the number of deals done and the amount invested. According to the report, the IT sector witnessed the largest number of UK venture capital deals in the first quarter of 2005, with 34 deals completed. However, the number of IT deals was down - 47 deals were completed in the first quarter of 2004 - while the overall value of deals in the comparable quarters had increased from E147.08m in 2004 to E158.83m in 2005. Software remains the sector's leading sub-sector.
