Investor Allstars Awards
GP Capital, the corporate finance house, celebrated the Investor Allstars Awards on October 15 at the Park Lane Sheraton. The awards were created to reward and acknowledge the contribution of early-stage investors behind the growing UK businesses of the future. The winners were: Merlin Biosciences for Venture Capital Fund of the Year, Beringea for Venture Capital Trust of the Year, North West Equity Fund for Regional Venture Capital Fund of the Year, Braveheart Ventures for Private Investor Network of the Year, Oxford University Challenge Seed Fund for University Challenge Fund of the Year, Soren Hein of Doughty Hanson Technology Ventures for Young Personality of the Year, and Bridges Community Ventures for New Venture Capital Fund of the Year. 3i won the Exit of the Year award for the sale this year of its stake in the consumer magazines publisher Paragon Publishing, which generated an IRR of 75%. The judges were George Coelho (Benchmark Capital), Nigel Grierson (Doughty Hanson), Kim Nicholson (Olswang), Anthony Clarke (One London, London Seed Capital) and Rob Wirszycz (Progressive Capital).
