Volumes rise as values drop for European IPOs
According to PricewaterhouseCooper's latest IPO European survey, Europe's IPO market continued to show evidence of strong activity in the first quarter of 2005. 96 IPOs took place between 1 January and 31 March 2005, 40 more than the first quarter of 2004, but 56 less than were recorded in the last quarter of 2004. The total offering value of EUR 5759m in 2005 Q1 was also marginally up on the EUR 5240m from 2004 Q1, although much lower than the EUR 8639m from 2004 Q4. PricewaterhouseCoopers put this value total down to the fact that activity seems to have been led by the smaller companies with only two IPOs breaking the EUR 1m mark.
