New private equity firms launched
Scott Lanphere, the Morgan Grenfell Private Equitydirector who led the firm s investment in Formula 1,has launched his own buyout firm. Lanphere willpartner with Robert Tchenguiz, owner of the RotchProperty group. Their firm, Aletheia, is interested inmid-market opportunities in the UK, Germany andFrance. Lanphere says Investors will commit to thefund with each deal. W ithin four years time we areconfident we will have about £500m invested .Meanwhile, Lance Whitehead, a formerfundraiser with Dresdner Kleinwort Capital (DKC)and Bank Indosuez, has set up a UK-basedplacement agency that will target Europe and theMiddle East. Whitehead has already securedmandates from the US-based Energy Investors Fundand the UK mid-cap specialist, Kleinwort Capital,both of which he has worked with previously.Whitehead believes the Middle East presentsopportunities for fund managers because of thehistory there of commitments to private equity. Hehas previously assisted the $45m Middle East fund-raisingfor W asserstein Perella s US Equity Partners.Finally , Riccardo Segat, formerly of HendersonsPrivate Capital, has annnounced that he will besetting up his own group, Equitas Capital.
