Technology sector looks forward
The early-stage organisation, Connect Scotland, recently announced the findings of its first Quarterly Trends Survey. The survey of Connect’s 70 member organisations shows that the Scottish technology companies are highly confident that the current business climate is set to improve. 85% of respondents believed that expenditure on products and services in their sector would improve over the next quarter. 70% of respondents were in the process of raising finance, or expected to do so over the next six months, expecting to raise an average of £1.25m. Meanwhile, the University of Oxford has launched a search for the world’s most innovative business plans. Scientists, new companies, students and entrepreneurs were among 120 potential competitors who attended the Oxford University Business Plan Competition. Entry is open to ideas that make significant use of design or technology, and the winning business plan will be announced at Venturefest in June. Imperial College’s Entrepreneur’s Challenge £25,000 prize has been won by three medical students who conceived and designed a life-saving asthma monitoring device.
