GMT Communications Partners has announced that senior associates Rupert Shaw and Kerim Turkmen have been promoted to principals. The new principals will be responsible for originating and executing investment opportunities in the media and telecommunications sectors in Europe as well as managing existing portfolio investments. Shaw joined GMT in 2000 from Donaldson, Lufkin & Jenrette's financial institutions group where he worked on a variety of M&A transactions. A British citizen, he graduated with honours from Duke University. He is currently a director of Marché du Travail/CCH, Docu Group and previously XchangePoint and Media Publications. Prior to joining GMT in 2000, Kerim Turkmen worked for Merrill Lynch's investment banking division, where he worked on M&A and corporate finance transactions throughout Europe. A Turkish and British citizen, he received a degree in mechanical engineering from Imperial College, and an MSc in accounting and finance from the London School of Economics. He is currently a member of Invitel's supervisory board.
