UK biotechnology sector feels the competition
The UK biotechnology industry has recently voiced fears over the rising strength of German firms within the sector and has demanded government support to ward-off the threat. The BioIndustry Association (BIA) has called on Gordon Brown to extend tax credits on company losses in order to encourage more spending on research and development. A number of other measures regarding employee share options have also been highlighted. According to the BIA without such measures Germany will overtake the UK and move into second place behind the US as a biotechnology power.
