Media Lab Ventures
Media Lab Europe (MLE), a university-level research and development joint venture between the Irish Government and the MIT, has announced the establishment of a new venture capital company called ‘Media Lab Ventures’ (MLV). MLV is structured as an Irish PLC and is wholly owned by MLE. MLV will provide advice and management services to an as yet unnamed Dublin based limited partnership vehicle, which will act as the vehicle for a -2-5m fund. The target for this fund has been set quite low as it will be used to establish the ‘proof of concept’. The fund will be used to finance and help move projects from the lab to the marketplace in the form of new companies or as licensable intellectual property. The fund will typically invest Euro 50,000 over a 12 month period in Dublin-based companies involved in one of the following areas: multi-media, bio-feedback, learning, wireless technologies and tele-presence (robotics).
