Brunel University
Brunel University has announced the launch of the PARK Seed Fund, in conjunction with HSBC, Royal Holloway University of London, JRA Technology Limited and the London Development Agency. The £1m fund aims to provide seed funding to businesses spun out of the University's research and development activities and expects to create six new companies a year for the next five years. It is initially expected that £25,000 will be allocated to each project, but that for every £1 invested from the PARK fund, the venture will attract £3-4 in additional grants. The primary purpose of the fund is to exploit science and engineering research in the following sectors: health and quality of life; environment and sustainability; ICT and new media; industrial product design and materials. Andrew Katz at Moorcrofts advised the University on the structure of the fund and gave advice on regulatory aspects. Keith Robson is the director of Enterprise at Brunel University.
