US private equity firms increase European activity
US private equity firms' influence on the European private equity industry continues to grow according to figures released from ZEPHYR, Bureau van Dijk Electronic Publishing's database of mergers and acquisitions. In the first half of 2004, 26% of all private equity funding announced in Europe emanated from a US bidder, rising from 18% in 2003 and 12% in 2002. The research also shows that US investors were behind each of the top five private equity deals in Europe in the first half of 2004, having injected funding worth nearly E13bn across 122 deals, only E1.5bn less than for the whole of 2003. US private equity managers have already injected nearly E5bn more capital into European business than in the whole of 2002, which saw E8.1bn worth of investment from the US.
