Downing appoints new COO
UK-based investment manager Downing has hired James Weaver as its new chief operating officer.
Prior to joining Downing, Weaver spent four years as chief operating officer at Amicus Finance. He has also previously held roles at Omni Partners and Pinsent Masons.
In this newly created role, Weaver will be responsible for driving Downing's strategy and the efficiency of business operations.
The investment manager passed the £1bn AUM mark last year – it manages assets over a broad range of classes, including venture, property finance and public equity.
On the venture side, the manager recently invested £3m in Wales-based Lignia Wood Company, a producer of sustainable modified wood. It also exited its investment in Cornwall-based satellite station Goonhilly Earth Station earlier in the summer; the exit marked the end of a four-year ownership after Downing, having acquired the firm in March 2014.
