Kirkland hires Fried Frank’s Townsend
Kirkland & Ellis has hired former Fried Frank associate Chris Townsend as partner in its private funds team.
Townsend will focus on advising fund managers, sponsors, family offices and other financial institutions on the formation and structuring of private equity, credit, infrastructure, venture, growth and real estate funds. He also has experience in spin-outs and secondaries, including GP-led deals, restructurings and co-investments.
Prior to joining Kirkland, Townsend was senior associate in the fund-formation and secondaries division of Fried Frank, where he worked for just over a year. Before that, Townsend worked in the private fund-formation business at Weil Gotshal & Manges for just under six years.
Kirkland recently advised on the establishment and structuring of Belgian buyout fund manager Ergon Capital Partners' fourth fund, which held a final close on €580m last week. Last year the law firm assisted Nordic Capital with the largest ever GP-led secondaries deal, creating the €2.5bn continuation vehicle, Nordic Capital CV1.
