Bain in exclusivity for $4bn Kantar buyout
Bain Capital has entered into exclusive negotiations to acquire UK-headquartered market research company Kantar in a deal giving the business an enterprise value of around $4bn.
The deal would see the GP acquire the business from trade vendor WPP, an advertising and public relations group.
The competitive bidding process was due to complete on 25 June, according to Unquote sister publication Mergermarket, with Apollo Global Management, Vista Equity and Platinum Equity also involved in the final stage.
London-focused Kantar focuses on data and market research related to the consumer market. The business has additional offices in New York, Buenos Aires, Singapore and Cape Town.
The proposed transaction would form part of WPP's strategy to divest non-core assets, according to a report in the Financial Times, with the group having sold around 30 subsidiaries for a combined value of around £900m since April 2018.
Kantar generated an operating profit of £301m from revenues of £2.6bn in 2018, according to Mergermarket.
