New merchant bank Umbra Capital Partners launches in UK
New firm Umbra Capital Partners has launched in London to advise and invest in UK SMEs.
The firm will be headquartered in London and was launched by Mark Gallagher, Gustavo Diquez, Steve Clark, Marcos Jorge Leon, John Travis and Charles Gallagher-Powell. The team also includes three associates and two operations professionals, and new additions will be announced in due course, according to a statement.
Umbra will primarily act as an adviser, offering capital raising, debt, M&A, restructuring and strategy services. It has set up its proprietary Umbra Intelligence Platform to monitor investors and identify the most appropriate funding partners for SMEs.
In addition, Umbra will also act as an investor itself. It will deploy private capital across the capital structure, and will also be able to invest in funds and co-invest alongside them. The firm manages an investment vehicle and segregated managed accounts.
Finally, Umbra will allow a network of members, including family offices, institutional investors, entrepreneurs, and friends and family, to co-invest in proprietary transactions.
The firm has already made several investments, including arranging and investing in a £200m bespoke debt facility for fintech business Hastee, in addition to securing a minority equity stake. It has also raised capital and invested in HotelMap, a hotel booking technology platform for conference delegates.
