
BGF invests more than £380m in 2020
BGF has announced its 2020 investment figures, in which it said it invested more than £380m during the year.
The firm invested £262m in 61 new companies and deployed £122m in existing portfolio companies in 2020. Deals included 365 Response in Wakefield and Datum360 in Teesside, both deals originated and completed during lockdown, according to a statement.
BGF exited 20 businesses in 2020 with an average money multiple of 1.9x and an aggregate IRR of 26%. The average investment hold period was 3.5 years and ranged from nine months to more than six years. These exits, which returned more than £220m from the £117m invested, included M Squared, Miss Group and Castleton.
The firm made a significant proportion of its investments in the technology and life sciences sector, according to the statement.
BGF makes minority investments in growing businesses in the UK and Ireland through its network of 16 offices.
