Ropes & Gray adds partner, counsel to private funds team

Ropes & Gray has hired Emiliy Brown as partner and Chris Townsend as counsel for its London-based private funds practice.
Brown has experience advising institutional investors and sponsors on a wide range of matters, including fund investments, co-investments and fund formations. She will join Ropes & Gray in April 2021, following a two-and-a-half-year stint at Schulte Roth & Zabel. Her previous employers include Macfarlanes, Dechert and Clifford Chance.
She will work with EMEA head of funds Tom Alabaster, who joined the firm's London office in May 2020.
The law firm has also appointed Chris Townsend as counsel in the London funds team. He was previously a partner in the international funds practice of Kirkland & Ellis, which he joined in 2019.
Townsend will advise European and global sponsors on the establishment and structuring of private funds. He is also experienced in spin-outs and secondaries transactions, particularly GP-led deals, fund restructurings, portfolio sales and other liquidity solutions.
