SuperSeed launches GBP 50m seed-stage fund
UK-based venture capital firm SuperSeed has held a first close at GBP 31m, with a target of GBP 50m.
The VC firm invests in startups focusing on business and industrial automation, selling B2B software.
The fund, SuperSeed Fund II, will invest between GBP 0.5m to GBP 1.5m in 30-35 UK startups over the next 3-4 years.
The cornerstone limited partner in the fund is the British Business Bank, through its Enterprise Capital Fund programme.
Ken Cooper, managing director at the British Business Bank, said its commitments to VC funds now exceed GBP 1bn.
SuperSeed was founded in 2018 by Dan Bowyer and Mads Jensen. They self-seeded the first fund to invest in 15 startups, including AI Build, ThingTrax, Integrated Finance, Kleene and Duel.
SuperSeed Capital Partners has also raised GBP 2m by listing on the AQSE Growth Market this week, to invest as a limited partner in the SuperSeed Fund II alongside potential other funds.
The pair have said that SuperSeed was in part founded to better support European startups from being outfought by their American counterparts.
"When it comes to marketing and sales the Americans have historically had an edge on us here in Europe, and we have to do better if we want to compete on the world stage," said Mads Jensen.
