General Atlantic appoints head of ESG from PAI

General Atlantic has appointed Cornelia Gomez as head of ESG, poaching the executive from PAI; she will be based in the global investor’s London office.
Following the appointment, Gomez will oversee General Atlantic’s efforts to accelerate its ESG strategy across the firm and its portfolio, according to a press release.
Gomez was formerly head of ESG and sustainability at PAI Partners. During her tenure at the French sponsor, she established the firm’s ESG practice and acted as an intermediary between investors, investment teams, and portfolio companies, enabling the incorporation of ESG from the due diligence phase to exit.
Prior to this, she was the global coordinator for the International Climate Initiative, a global climate change initiative comprised of private markets investors, which is sponsored by the United Nations’ Principles for Responsible Investment, between 2020-2021. Previously, she led the Social Compliance unit at French food retailer Casino Group, according to the press release.
General Atlantic is currently investing through vehicles including GA 2021, its sixth flagship fund. The vehicle held a final close in November 2021 on USD 7.8bn, having launched with a target of USD 5bn. It makes growth equity investments in high-growth, technology-enabled companies globally, targeting sectors including consumer, financial services, healthcare, life sciences and technology, according to Unquote Data.
