Ropes & Gray hires three PE-focused partners in London
Law firm Ropes & Gray has added three private equity partners to its London office, poaching them from Fried, Frank, Harris, Shriver & Jacobson, according to a press release.
Dan Oates was previously the head of European private equity at Fried, Frank, Harris, Shriver & Jacobson in London, where he spent over seven years. He counted among his clients Apollo Group, Apax, KKR, 3i, CVC, and Blackstone, among others, according to his former firm's website. He started his career at Kirkland & Ellis in 2006, according to LinkedIn.

Simon Saitowitz was a partner at his previous firm, advising private equity and M&A in the UK and internationally. His focus was on transactions, co-investments, corporate advisory, GP-led secondaries, and joint ventures. His clients included Advent International, Goldman Sachs, Hg Capital, and Bridgepoint, among others, according to his previous employer's website.

Angela Becker was a partner for two months at Fried, Frank, Harris, Shriver & Jacobson after spending over two years as a corporate associate at the firm. Her practice at her former law firm involved advising on multi-jurisdictional transactions including joint ventures, co-investments, acquisitions, and leveraged buyouts. Becker is also called to the Bar in Western Australia, according to Fried, Frank's website. Prior to joining Fried Frank, Becker was at Clifford Chance for over three years and a legal counsel at Sumitomo Corporation for two years. She started off her career at Allen & Overy in Perth and later became an associate in the Tokyo branch, according to her LinkedIn profile.
Jane Rogers, acting managing partner of Ropes & Gray's London branch, said in the press release that the appointments follow three other partner hires and four promotions in London over the last year. She added the firm has ambitious growth plans and will continue to invest in areas including funds and private equity, as well as restructuring and finance.
The press release noted that Ropes & Gray advised on 290 transactions, worth USD 230bn, in 2021. The London-based private equity team has advised on 105 transactions worth GBP 97bn this year, it added.
The new partners will work alongside partners Will Rosen, Helen Croke, John Newton, Elizabeth Todd, and Victoria McGrath. The London-based private equity team now stands at 50 lawyers, including eight partners.
