Balderton hires Deloitte's Broad as head of impact
London-headquartered venture capital firm Balderton Capital has hired Elodie Broad as its first head of impact and sustainable future goals (SFGs).
In her new position, Broad will focus on Balderton's impact and sustainability strategy. This will include tracking the attainment of its SFGs and monitoring developments in sustainability and impact investing, including market developments and technological innovation.
Prior to joining Balderton, Broad was part of Deloitte's sustainable finance team, focusing on private equity within the investment management sector. In her role, she assisted corporates with ESG strategy, transformation, and regulatory readiness.
The appointment and creation of the new role are part of the VC's commitment to delivering its SFGs, the firm said in a press release. Balderton has modelled its SFGs on the UN's Sustainable Development Goals (SGDs), honing in on topics including climate change, gender equality, and economic integration.
The firm set out its objectives and key results (OKRs) in its 2021 SFG report, focusing on three core areas: internal operations; investment decision-making; the Balderton portfolio.
Balderton Capital has more than 100 portfolio companies and its previous investments include online marketplace Etsy, as well as investment platform Nutmeg. The firm's recent fundraising activity includes the USD 600m final close of Balderton Capital VIII in November 2021.
