
Sir Knowles named Zeus chairman

Sir Nigel Knowles has been appointed chairman of investment banking boutique Zeus Capital.
Knowles is currently global CEO and managing partner of DLA Piper, which he joined in 1996. Over the past 18 years he has led the practice through a number of mergers, seeing the firm expand into Europe, Asia, Australia and the Middle East. He oversaw DLA's merger with US-based firms Piper Rudnick and Gray Cary Ware & Freidenrich in 2005.
Knowles is a qualified solicitor of the senior courts of England and Wales. He is a fellow of Harris Manchester College, University of Oxford. He was appointed visiting professor of the University of Sheffield in November 2010 and received an honorary doctorate of civil law from the University of Sheffield in July 2011.
Knowles is also chairman and non-executive director for Blenheim Capital Services.
He began his career in 1978, joining Yorkshire law firm Broomheads as a trainee.
