Latham hires Weil PE partner Benson
Latham & Watkins has made another foray into the UK private equity market with the recruitment of Weil Gotshal & Manges partner Nick Benson.
Benson – whose start date at Latham is yet to be determined – is a funds lawyer who advises sponsors and investors on all aspects of the establishment and operation of private equity, infrastructure and real estate deals.
He was at Clifford Chance (CC) for nearly a decade before joining Weil in a high-profile, four-partner team move in 2011. Previous mandates include advising BC Partners on its €5.5bn European Capital IX fund in 2011.
Latham's London office has now added five partners since May last year, including the appointments of Clifford Chance's global private equity head David Walker and private equity partner Tom Evans.
Benson also becomes the fifth partner to depart Weil's London office in the same period. In December, tax partner Brenda Coleman joined Ropes & Gray, following the move of litigation partner Matthew Shankland to Sidley Austin earlier in the Autumn.
A three lawyer team including private equity partner Mark Soundy and tax partner Sarah Priestley also left for Shearman & Sterling in the summer.
