SMEs disenchanted by party conferences
UK SMEs feel unsupported and uncertain of the future following the recent political party conferences across the UK.
According to Key Capital Partner's Q4 Business Growth Panel – a survey of mid-sized companies – 87% feel they receive minimal support at party conferences from the main three parties. Only 43% believe Conservative policies would be of benefit to them, while just 17% feel that Labour's policy announcement would have a positive impact on their business.
The majority of respondents, 59%, felt that David Cameron's closing speech focused too heavily on welfare reform, while an even larger proportion, 74%, felt unclear as to how businesses would be supported in providing extra jobs in order to tackle unemployment.
"It seems the government will pander to big businesses and offer support to start-ups but the established medium-sized businesses that are shoring up the economy are ignored," says Ted Goold, chairman at Wells Plastics, a portfolio company of KCP.
