George Osborne set to vote against AIFM
Britain’s new Chancellor, George Osborne, is set to vote against the Alternative Investment Fund Managers (AIFM) Directive, according to reports.
Osborne, who became Chancellor this week following successful post-election coalition talks, will make his first EU vote when finance ministers meet on Tuesday.
However, he is likely to be defeated, with only the Czech Republic expected to join him in voting against the measures.
Britain has opposed some measures in the AIFM Directive, particularly third country rules. It is also thought the new regulations will be particularly damaging to the City of London, which is a major hub for private equity and hedge fund operations.
