KPMG promotes Thakkar
KPMG has promoted Sanjay Thakkar to UK head of transactions and restructuring.
Thakkar takes over from Richard Fleming, who has held the post since 2011 alongside his primary role as head of advisory in the UK.
Thakkar was previously head of transactions and restructuring in India between 2008 and 2011, where he doubled the size of the business and worked with clients such as Vodafone and Aditya Birla Group.
Since 2011, Thakkar has led on Vodafone's acquisition of ONO and Barclays' sale of its African operations to ABSA. He also advised on the sale of Williams & Glynn bank to a consortium and Atlas Mara on its investment in three African banking groups.
Thakkar began his audit career at KPMG in 1991, where he qualified as a chartered accountant. He then focused on the technology sector and spent 18 months in Silicon Valley during the dotcom boom. His first foray into transaction services was in Frankfurt, where he helped develop the practice. He became a UK partner in 2005.
