KPMG CF private equity head McDonagh leaves

Michael McDonagh is heading to Liberty Corporate Finance from 1 October. He has headed KPMG’s UK corporate finance private equity practice since 2005.
While at KPMG, McDonagh led on deals including Asco, BSN Medical, Countrywide, Merlin Entertainments, Phones 4u, RBS Worldpay, Selecta, SSP and Welcome Break, among others. McDonagh's team at KPMG focuses on deals above the £100m mark, whereas Liberty's sweet spot is below that.
Liberty is a specialist private equity corporate finance boutique which provides buy-side advice and management advisory for transactions with EV in the £5-100m range. It was co-founded by Steve Thomson and Simon Hill, both from KPMG, in 2006. Clients include Sovereign Capital, ISIS, ECI and Graphite. Liberty is looking to grow its business through applying more resource to its traditional markets and by extending its reach to the larger mid market and LBO space.
KPMG's Frank Carter will become the main point of contact for private equity at KPMG Corporate Finance. He graduated from Heriot-Watt University before joining Royal Bank of Scotland for a year before joining KPMG in 1984. He became a partner in October 1997.
McDonagh has been with KPMG since 2000 after joining from Grant Thornton, where he spent 11 years.
