Barclays puts stop to venture arm
Barclays has stopped any new investments under its private equity division, Barclays Ventures.
The current economic climate has led banks to re-evaluate their private equity activities resulting from stricter bank regulations on capital management. The discontinuation of the ventures arm has also brought about the resignation of its managing director, Kip Kapur.
Currently, Barclays Ventures has stakes in 55 companies such as You At Work, an employee benefit consultancy, Original Additions, a beauty and fashion products developer, and the 99p stores.
