Onex opens London office
North American investment firm Onex has announced the opening of a London office led by newly-hired managing director Tony Morgan.
Founded in 1984, the firm already has offices in Toronto and New York. It manages approximately $15bn in funds for private equity, real estate and credit security investments. The company is listed on the Toronto stock exchange and draws about a third of its funds from third parties while also acting as LP to its own funds.
Morgan first partnered with Onex on its investment in Tomkins; he was then vice president of the principal investing group at Canada Pension Plan Investment Board. Prior to this he worked with private equity firms Alchemy Partners and Permira.
Onex chairman and CEO Gerald W Schwartz said in a statement: "After 28 years acquiring and building businesses with global reach, opening a London office is a natural progression for Onex. We see great opportunities in the European market for investors like Onex and are pleased to have Tony, a British national and experienced investor, join us to help establish this local presence."
