Barclays acquires Allied Glass from CBPE
Barclays Private Equity (BPE) has backed the ТЃ75m management buyout of UK glass container manufacturer Allied Glass from CBPE Capital.
BPE invested £29.5m for a majority stake in the company, alongside a reinvestment from management and senior debt facilities provided by HSBC and Lloyds TSB.
The investment will provide Allied Glass with the ability to further build on its established customer base and continue to develop its design offering. It will also facilitate further advancement in flexible production techniques and allow the company to build additional production capacity as demand increases. Allied Glass will also consider acquisition opportunities when they arise.
Founded in 2000, Leeds-based Allied Glass is a specialist manufacturer of glass bottles and other glass containers, predominantly for the spirits and specialist food markets. The company has approximately 600 employees across its two factory sites in Leeds and Knottingley; it posted a £78m turnover for 2009.
