Value of UK buyouts soars
The value of buyouts in the UK has soared in H1 2007. An unprecedented number of mega-deals are responsible for the EUR45bn+ value of deals completed in the UK during the first half of 2007. Most notable is Kohlberg Kravis Robert's £11.1bn acquisition of Alliance Boots alongside other substantial deals such as the £6.15bn AA/Saga merger, Apollo's £1.1bn acquisition of Countrywide and Cinven's £1.44bn purchase of 26 BUPA hospitals.
The volume of buyout deals in H1 has also risen, up from 92 in H1 2006 to 113 in H1 2007. Although the market in France remains substantially smaller in terms of value, it has just pipped the UK to the post in terms of volume of deals. France recorded 114 deals in the first six months of 2007, compared with 75 for the same time period in 2006.
