Index et al. to exit Lovefilm
According to reports, Lovefilm's private equity backers, including Index Ventures, Arts Alliance Media, Balderton Capital and DFJ Esprit, are looking to sell their stake in the home entertainment company.
The online DVD rental and movie download company was founded in 2003 and has since grown organically and through a total of 10 mergers and acquisitions across Europe. Investment bank Jeffries is working on the potential sale and press reports suggest private equity firms such as KKR and Silverlake have been targeted. The deal value is believed to be around £200m.
Other owners in Lovefilm include management, which holds a 7% stake, and Amazon with a 32% stake following the 2008 merger with Amazon DVD Rental UK.
