3i supports Infinis's bolt-on of Alkane with £125m
3i is to provide UK portfolio company Infinis with £125m of follow-on funding to support the acquisition of energy generation firm Alkane Energy.
The proposed transaction comes 16 months after 3i invested £185m to wholly acquire Infinis, (then the landfill gas division of alternative energy company Infinis Energy) from Terra Firma.
The bolt-on of Alkane, which is subject to third-party approval, forms part of Infinis's strategy to diversify its energy portfolio.
Company
Founded in 1994 and headquartered in Edwinstowe, Nottinghamshire, Alkane is an energy generation business that captures methane from mothballed and closed coal mines, and converts it into electricity. The business has a headcount of 40 and operates 32 sites in the UK.
According to publicly available documents, Alkane generated a turnover of £31.5m in the 15-month period ending March 2017, with a pre-tax profit of £10.4m and a profit from continuing operations of £9.8m.
