Exponent sells Loch Lomond to Hillhouse Capital
Exponent Private Equity has sold its majority stake in Scottish whisky producer Loch Lomond Group to Hillhouse Capital Management.
The sale ends a holding period of five years for Exponent, which acquired the company using its second fund.
Since the original buyout, the company has boosted its international exports from 10% of its revenues to 70% of its revenues, according to a statement. However, the company reported a £10.1m loss before tax from sales of £52.9m for the year ending in September 2018.
Hillhouse said it will continue to support Loch Lomond’s international expansion, particularly in Asia where it says whisky has become increasingly popular in recent years.
Previous funding
Exponent backed the primary buyout of Loch Lomond from the Bulloch family in 2014.
Company
Loch Lomond was founded in its current form in 1964. It distills a range of whiskies under the Loch Lomond brand as well as Glen’s Vodka at its two distilleries in Alexandria and Campbeltown. The company generated sales of £52.9m in the year ending in September 2018.
