Warburg Pincus poaches former Evercore MD to co-head Europe
US-headquartered GP Warburg Pincus has named Andrew Sibbald as managing director and co-head of Europe alongside Berlin-based René Obermann, succeeding Adarsh Sarmam, according to a statement issued yesterday (31 July).
Sibbald and Obermann will work closely with US private equity co-head Jim Neary in supporting the firm's global strategy, portfolio management and new investments, it said.
Sibbald joins Warburg Pincus from Evercore, where he most recently served as chairman and senior managing director of the advisor’s European investment banking business. Prior to that, he was the co-founder and senior partner of Lexicon Partners, which was acquired by Evercore in 2011.
Warburg Pincus, which says it has one of the “largest pools of available private equity capital in Europe”, collected USD 15.4bn in January for its latest flagship strategy, Global Growth 14. The fundraise, which was launched in late 2021, had a USD 16bn target, according to Unquote Data.
The GP's recent deals include the carve-out of Pharma Intelligence, a former unit of Informa focused on intelligence and data for clinical trials, drug development and regulatory compliance, as reported. The deal, which saw Abu Dhabi-based Mubadala Investment Company co-invest, valued the company at GBP 1.9bn with an entry multiple of around 20-25x, according to the report.
More recently, Warburg Pincus has reportedly been involved in the auction process of Vodafone’s Spanish unit, which could be valued by as much as USD 4bn.
