DC Thomson and Nesta inject £1.75m into CogBooks
DC Thomson Ventures, the VC arm of media company DC Thomson, and Nesta Impact Investments have committed ТЃ1.75m to Edinburgh-based CogBooks, an adaptive learning technology business.
Scottish Investment Bank also participated in the funding round.
The business will use the fresh funding to expand its international reach.
Nesta Impact Investment is a £17.6m social impact fund supported by Big Society Capital, Omidyar Network and Nesta. The fund launched in 2012 and focuses on businesses that address challenges faced by older people, children and UK communities.

Founded in 2006 and based in Edinburgh, CogBooks is an adaptive learning platform used by publishers and post-secondary education and corporate training businesses. The firm's cloud-based technology can be used as a standalone learning platform or in conjunction with customers' existing systems such as massive open online courses or learning management systems.
CogBooks is involved in projects with the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and OCR exam board.

Joe Ludlow is director of the Nesta fund, with Matt Mead as chief investment and financial officer.
