Montagu acquires College of Law
Montagu Private Equity has acquired the legal education and training business of The College of Law.
The deal follows the conclusion of a strategic review regarding the separation of the college's legal education and training business from its charitable work.
The acquisition of the college's legal education and training operations was made through a newco. The existing management team will remain.
Montagu has also committed to establishing a College Scholarship Fund with a £2m investment as part of the acquisition.
The proceeds of the sale will contribute to a fund of more than £200m under management by the charity, which will be renamed The Legal Education Foundation, to support bursaries, scholarships and grants for future students.
Montagu began talks with the College of Law in February this year, as it sought a platform to invest in the UK higher education sector.

Founded in 1962, The College of Law provides legal education and training to students and professionals in the UK. It received its Royal Charter in 1975 and in 2006 became the first independent institution with degree-awarding powers.
