
NewsWhip secures $1.1m in seed funding
Hal Philipp of Meridian Growth Capital, Shane Naughton of Inundata and others have invested $1.1m in a seed funding round for NewsWhip, a Dublin-based online news platform.
Additional participators in the round included new investors AIB Seed Capital Fund, managed by Dublin BIC, Enterprise Ireland and angel investor Hannes Smarason. Philipp and Naughton both contributed in a previous angel round for the company.
The fresh capital will be used for developing the story-telling tool Spike, NewsWhip.com, and the company's Android and iPhone Apps. NewsWhip will open a New York office with a sales and communications team in connection with the investment, as well as expanding its Dublin team.

Based in Dublin, NewsWhip is a news finding tool launched in September 2011. Its clients are freelancers, publishers, agencies and content marketing brands in 12 countries, including Switzerland, Belgium, Australia and Canada.
Current users of the service include the BBC, The Huffington Post, Yahoo, The Guardian Think Progress, The Blaze, and News International.
