Private Equity Foundation launches new fund
Fund
Specialist investor the Private Equity Foundation (PEF) has launched its third fundraising vehicle for investment into youth-focused charities. The fund has no specified target, nor a hard-cap, making it well placed to offer investors the flexibility they require in today's backdrop of economic uncertainty. Its previous vehicles have raised a total of £11m to invest in social causes and the organisation also offers a network of private equity professionals who give their time to the underlying portfolio charities.
Since PEF's inception, the Foundation has invested in 11 UK charities in addition to two in Europe, together reaching the lives of more than 20,000 children and young people this year alone. The due diligence for a typical investment takes around four months.
Investments
The fund aims to bring PEF's portfolio of charities to between 15-20, and targets an investment period of three years for each. During this time, quarterly targets are given to the charities, which act as "milestones" by which progress is judged. The charities are assisted through the PEF network, which comprises professionals drawn from the 70 donor firms who dedicate not only their money, but also their time towards applying private equity principals to these charities. As such, each deal is leveraged with the expertise of donors.
"Our intelligent giving model is not just about money, it is about impact," says PEF's CEO Shaks Ghosh. "By investing in PEF, alongside your charity donation, you know that each PEF charity also benefits from our own third sector expertise and a range of pro bono skills, all for free. If you're considering donating to charity this Christmas, PEF is a no-brainer."
The fund plans to make an additional three to four investments in the next few months.
