Enterprise Ireland et al. back Metabolomic
Enterprise Ireland, SOSVentures and the AIB Seed Capital Fund have injected €750,000 into the series-A funding round of Ireland-based Metabolomic Diagnostics.
The fresh capital will allow Metabolomic to accelerate its commercialisation.
Ireland- and Texas-based SOSVentures invested via its Ireland Fund.
Company
Founded in 2011, Metabolomic is headquartered in Little Island, County Cork and currently employs six staff. The company is developing PrePsia, an early pregnancy predictive test for the testing of pre-eclampsia.
Pre-eclampsia is a late-stage medical condition that causes high blood pressure and a large amount of protein in the urine of pregnant women, which can then restrict the blood supply to a foetus. If untreated, pre-eclampsia can develop into eclampsia, which causes seizures and can be fatal.
Metabolomic, which has not yet commercialised its product, plans on providing blood tests at 15 weeks into a pregnancy. The tests are designed to predict if a woman has a high risk of developing pre-eclampsia later on in pregnancy.
People
Charles Garvey is the CEO of Metabolomic. Bill Liao is a partner at SOSVentures and has joined Metabolomic's board of directors.
