Smedvig Capital has led a £4m investment in start-up drinks company SUSO Drinks Ltd in a first institutional round of funding, with additional financing provided by management. The deal was introduced to Smedvig by Keith Crockett of KC Capital, acting on behalf of SUSO. The capital will be used to establish the infrastructure of the business. Further funding may be provided when the company enters the next phase of its development.

Company

Founded in 2006, SUSO has created a new product aimed at the UK youth and young adult market. The drink is 100% fruit juice with added carbonation, providing one of the recommended five portions of fruit a day and containing no additives. London-based SUSO is hoping to take advantage of the continuing shift in consumption to fruit and healthy products, whilst maintaining all of the benefits of carbonated drinks; a sub-sector of the market that is worth around £2bn a year. No established brands currently offer a similar product to the youth market in the UK, which potentially makes this new launch extremely lucrative. The company has a strong management team consisting of several well-known professionals from the soft drinks industry – including Harry Drnec, former CEO of Red Bull, and Andrew King, former CEO of PJ Smoothies.

People

Johnny Hewett and Jordan Mayo led the deal for Smedvig and will both join the SUSO board.
