KSL buys The Belfry golf course

Sean Quinn junior, the son of bankrupt Irish millionaire Sean Quinn, reportedly bought the business in 2005 for £186m. The company is said to owe its lenders £100m.

KSL plans a comprehensive renovation of the hotel. It will be run by a subsidiary of the De Vere Group, which managed the business prior to its sale to Quinn.

Located in Wishaw, Sutton Coldfield, on grounds dating back to medieval times, The Belfry consits of a hotel and three golf courses – the Brabazon, the PGA National and The Derby. The Belfry is the only ground in the world to have hosted the Ryder Cup four times: it hosted the competition in 1985, 1989, 1993 and 2002, on the Brabazon course.
