TLCom and Gray Ghost sell Movirtu to Blackberry
TLCom and Gray Ghost Ventures have sold communications technology company Movirtu to telecoms business Blackberry.
Movirtu will continue as a subsidiary of Ontario-based Blackberry.
The Canadian mobile phone company bought UK-based Movirtu for its split billing product, which allows multiple phone numbers on a single device, with separate billing for usage on each number.
Movirtu's service is aimed primarily at businesses with a "bring your own device" policy, where employees use their personal mobile devices for company communications. As such, the acquisition is in line with Blackberry's focus on providing services for businesses rather than private users.
Previous funding
TLCom and Gray Ghost completed a $5.5m series-A funding round for Movirtu in 2010.
Company
Movirtu is a provider of mobile identity software, with its key product allowing separate billing for multiple identities or phone numbers on a single device.
Headquartered in London, the company also has offices in Centurion, South Africa, and employs 50 staff.
People
Carsten Brinkschilte is the CEO of Movirtu, while TLCom founder and managing partner Maurizio Caio worked on the deal for the VC.
