VCs sell NaturalMotion to Zynga for $527m
NYSE-listed game developer Zynga has acquired NaturalMotion, a UK-based animation technology firm backed by Balderton Capital, for $527m.
NaturalMotion's shareholders are set to receive $391m in cash and around 39.8 million shares in Zynga.
The acquisition was designed to accelerate Zynga's growth in the mobile space and expand its technology range.
Previous funding
Balderton Capital backed NaturalMotion to help the firm develop its interactive 3D entertainment technologies in 2006, according to unquote" data. In 2012, the VC committed a further $11m in a series-B round designed to support the opening of the firm's US headquarters in San Francisco and boost its mobile technology.

Established in 2001, NaturalMotion is a spin-off from Oxford University specialising in the creation of animation technology for the game and film industries. Headquartered in Oxford, United Kingdom, the firm has an additional office in San Francisco in the US.
