Index in $500,000 round for Blaze
Index Ventures has taken part in a ТЃ300,000 funding round for Blaze, a UK-based start-up that produces safety lights for cycling.
Co-investment was provided by the Branson family.
The fresh funding will be used to expand the company's product range to include helmets and locking systems. The firm may also look to acquire a design studio.
Company
Launched on crowdfunding platform Kickstarter in 2012, Blaze is a cycling brand that produces bicycle lights. The firm's flagship product, Laserlight, projects a green laser image of a bike 5-6 metres ahead of the bicycle. The light alerts drivers to unseen cyclists and prevents drivers from turning across the cycle path.
According to the firm, 79% of cyclists involved in accidents are riding straight ahead when a vehicle turns into them. The light costs £125 per unit and will be stocked in cycling shop Evans.
