
Buyouts 2009: The year of lost opportunities
Despite plenty of "dry powder," 2009 ranks as one of the worst years in private equity history. Eckhoff and Eftimiu present unquote"s European Buyout Review
"European buyout activity plummeted to 249 deals worth just over €23bn – only a third of the 2008 total," unquote"s head of research Emanuel Eftimiu notes in the latest video interview.
Yet, in the light of falling volume and value figures across all markets, there might be light at the end of the tunnel after all: 2009 did in fact end with a gentle uptick in activity and should debt markets continue to thaw, the year ahead could bring more upbeat figures.
