EQT promotes seven new partners
Nordic private equity group EQT has promoted seven employees to partner, across Europe and the US.
In Stockholm, Johan Dettel, Albert Gustafsson and Marcus Wallinder joined the partner group, while Paul Johnson was promoted in London, Rikke Kjær Nielsen in Copenhagen and Erwin Thompson and Florian Funk in New York.
Johan Dettel was promoted from his previous position as director in EQT Mid Market. He joined the firm's mid-market division as an associate in 2007, coming from a similar position at Handelsbanken Capital Markets in Stockholm.
Albert Gustafsson is part of EQT Equity, the arm managing its flagship buyout vehicles. He was promoted to partner after 11 years with the firm, having joined from Lehman Brothers in 2006. During his time at Lehman, he worked in the M&A and debt capital markets teams in London. Prior to this, he was employed in the corporate finance department of ABG Sundal Collier.
In Copenhagen, EQT Mid Market Europe's Rikke Kjær Nielsen was promoted to the partnership group, following nearly seven years at EQT. Before her start at EQT, Nielsen worked at the Royal Bank of Scotland's M&A group, by way of its acquisition of Alfred Berg ABN Amro, as an assistant director in Copenhagen.
Investor relations fundraising director Marcus Wallinder was promoted to partner in the Stockholm office. He was a director in the Danske Bank corporate finance department in the Swedish capital before joining EQT in 2009, having spent more than four years at Danske.
Wallinder began his career at PwC in 1995, becoming manager in the corporate finance team before leaving for a position as vice-president at Swedish HQ Bank in 2000. Before joining Danske, he ran his own boutique firm and had a two-year stint as head of corporate finance at Mangold Fondkommission.
In EQT Credit, Paul Johnson was promoted to partner, having joined the firm in 2010 as a director. Based in London, Johnson previously spent nearly a decade as a director at Credit Suisse First Boston, which he had joined from NatWest in 1999.
Florian Funk is part of EQT's US operations and is based in New York. He joins the partnership after around nine years at the firm, having initially joined as a director in EQT's Frankfurt office. Funk moved to Hong Kong in 2011 to work in the GP's China- and south-east-Asia-focused vehicle, before returning to Frankfurt in 2013. He joined the GP's New York-based team in January 2015.
Also in New York, Erwin Thompson was promoted to partner after seven years with EQT. He joined the GP's New York mid-market buyout office in September 2009, having left a position as associate director at UBS's investment banking division. Prior to his time at UBS, he was an analyst at BlackRock for a year, and a senior engineer at Bloomberg for three years.
