Ardian opens Tokyo office, hires HarbourVest's Takenaka
Ardian is to open a new office in Tokyo to support its increasing activity across the Asia Pacific region.
The firm has appointed HarbourVest principal Kanji Takenaka to lead the office in the role of managing director and head of Japan.
The move comes six years after the GP opened a Beijing office and 13 years after it first established a base in Asia with the opening of its Singapore office.
Ardian is looking to increase both deal-making and fundraising activity in Japan, with LPs in the country accounting for $2bn of its assets under management, according to a statement. Across Asia as a whole, the firm has around 50 LPs that account for $8.2bn of commitments to its funds.
According to its website, the GP's most recent deal in the Asia Pacific region was for Chinese medical devices and consumables manufacturer Kangji Medical in August 2016.
The new office means Ardian now has a presence in 13 cities across Europe, North America and Asia.
