
Riverside promotes Álvarez-Novoa to partner
The Riverside Company has promoted Rafael Уlvarez-Novoa from principal to partner and has appointed two operating partners.
Álvarez-Novoa, who works from Riverside's Madrid office, joined the firm in 2008 to focus on its operations in southern Europe, especially Spain, Italy and Portugal.
He worked on several investments including Orliman, a manufacturer of non-invasive orthopaedic braces; MEC3, a producer of ingredients for gelato and pastry; and Euromed, a supplier of herbal extracts for the pharmaceutical and dietary supplements industries.
Prior to joining Riverside, Álvarez-Novoa was an associate in corporate finance for Dresdner Kleinwort and worked as a project manager for Made, managing wind turbine projects in Spain, Tunisia and Vietnam.
In addition to Álvarez-Novoa's promotion, Riverside appointed two operating partners, Filip Van de Vliet and Philip Rowland.
Prior to joining Riverside, Van de Vliet served as CEO of Globachem and COO of Arysta Lifescience Europe, both agro-pharmaceutical companies. Van de Vliet will work from Riverside's Brussels office.
Rowland was hitherto a partner at OC&C Strategy Consultants, where he focused on due diligence, strategy and performance improvement. Prior to this, he was a senior operating partner at TDR Capital for 10 years, and has experience from McKinsey & Company. He will work from Riverside's London office.
The Riverside Company is a global private equity firm focused on investing in growing businesses valued at up to $400m. The firm has an international portfolio of more than 80 companies and has made five investments and one exit in Europe this year.
